The name “Kila” originates from the Sanskrit word symbolizing a spiritual dagger that dispels negativity, reflecting the nuns’ commitment to spiritual purity. To reach this peaceful sanctuary, take a diversion road just before reaching Chele la pass. From there, you can embark on a 2.5 to 5-kilometer journey, either by hiking or by car.

Perched at an elevation of 3,500 meters atop a mountaintop, Kila Goenpa Nunnery offers respite from the bustling towns below. Here, the nuns lead lives of tranquility, in harmony with the surrounding natural beauty. The nunnery comprises seven small temples and several retreat huts, providing a space for deep contemplation and practice.

For the adventurous souls, a hiking trail of about an hour winds through pine forests and steep slopes, offering a closer connection to nature and the spiritual energy of the nunnery. Alternatively, there’s another trail descending from Chelela pass, which takes approximately 1-2 hours, leading you to the serene abode of Kila Goenpa Nunnery.
