Kurjey Festival in Bumthang
Kurjey Tsechu is celebrated in the popular Kurjey temple in Bumthang. People of Jakar and Kurjey villages attend the tshechu to pay obedience to Guru Rinpoche who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. It is a one-day festival and the Chams include Guru Tshengye and Shinjay Chhamperfomred by the monks of Kurjey Lhakhang. It is then closed with the unfurling of the Giant Buddha/Guru Thangka painting known as Thongdrel.

The festival date for 2023 falls on the 28th of July and in 2024 on the 16th of June.

Kurjey is located in Bumthang which is 8 hour drive from Thimphu. The best way to reach Bumthang is to take a domestic flight from Paro. It takes about 25 minutes to reach Batpalathng airport in Bumthang.
