Tharpaling Thongdrel in Bumthang
The Tharpaling Thongdrel is a one-day festival held on the grounds of Tharpaling Lhakhang. Unlike other religious festivals, no masked dances are performed during the festival. The main attraction of the festival is the unfurling of a thongdrel of Jowo Jampa (Maitreya Buddha/future Buddha). This is preceded by the offering of prayers.
Tharpaling Festival Date 2023
The festival in Tharpaling monastery takes place every year. This year it is fixed at 7th March 2023.
Where is Bumthang?
Bumthang is 8 hour drive from Thimphu and a 25-minute flight from Paro International airport. It is one of the most beautiful valleys in central Bhutan.
