Trans Bhutan Trail Opens after 60 Years

The Trans Bhutan Trail is a long-distance hiking trail that spans across the entire length of Bhutan, a small kingdom located in the eastern Himalayas. The trail runs for approximately 485 km (301 miles) from the western border town of Paro to the eastern town of Trashigang.
The Trans Bhutan Trail passes through a variety of landscapes, including lush forests, high mountain passes, and remote villages. Along the way, hikers can encounter an array of wildlife, such as wild yaks, red pandas, and black bears.
The trail can take anywhere from 20 to 30 days to complete, depending on one’s pace and the specific route taken. Accommodation options along the trail are limited, and hikers typically camp in tents or stay in homestays in local villages.
The Trans Bhutan Trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the natural beauty and cultural heritage of Bhutan, which is known for its pristine environment and commitment to sustainable development. However, due to the remote and rugged nature of the trail, hikers should be experienced and prepared for challenging conditions.
