It experiences climate conditions ranging from temperate to alpine with extremely cold winters, and short pleasant summers. During winters, Lunana experiences heavy snowfall which keeps them snowbound as the mountain passes become inaccessible to the neighbouring Gewogs and Dzongkhags, It receives an average annual rainfall of 2000mm. The people of Lunana generally speak Dzongkha with a distinctive accent and their local dialect.

Gewog also experiences severe climatic conditions with long winters, which does not allow the diversification of agriculture production. However, dry land croppings like wheat, buckwheat, and horticulture production (potato, radish, turnip, etc…). Is carried out on a small scale. People of these Gewog entirely depend on cordyceps (yartsagunbup) and livestock productions, which are bartered with neighbouring Gewogs and Dzongkhags. Some of the people spend their winters in the lower altitude valleys of Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha.
