Requirements for Bhutan Travel:
- Weather-Appropriate Clothing: Depending on the season, bring warm layers, comfortable walking shoes, rain gear, and sun protection.
- Visa: All international tourists (except Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) require a visa. It must be arranged through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or their international partners.
- Tourist Tariff: Bhutan has a mandatory daily tariff under the “Sustainable Development Fee (SDF).” As of 2024, it’s USD 100 per person per day and does not cover accommodation, meals, guide, transport, and entry fees.
- Travel Insurance: Comprehensive travel insurance is recommended to cover any medical emergencies.
- Physical Fitness: Moderate fitness is required, especially for the hike to Tiger’s Nest. It’s advised to acclimate to the altitude.
- Currency: Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) is the local currency. Indian Rupees are also widely accepted. Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and shops.
