How to get to Trongsa?
To get to Trongsa, first fly into Paro International Airport, Bhutan’s only international gateway. From Paro, you can take a scenic road trip of about 4-5 hours (120 km) through Wangdue Phodrang and Punakha to reach Trongsa. Alternatively, if traveling from Thimphu, the journey is about 5-6 hours (150 km) and passes through Dochula Pass, offering stunning mountain views. Private taxis, buses, or rented cars with drivers are commonly used for the trip, and the drive is a beautiful experience through Bhutan’s mountainous landscapes
Best Time to Visit Trongsa
The best time to visit Trongsa is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months. During these seasons, the weather is mild and pleasant, making it perfect for sightseeing and exploring the town’s attractions. Trongsa Dzong
One of Bhutan’s largest and most significant dzongs, Trongsa Dzong sits magnificently on a ridge overlooking the town. It was the seat of the Wangchuck Dynasty before they ascended to the throne. The dzong is a masterpiece of traditional Bhutanese architecture and offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley.
Ta Dzong

Kuenga Rabten Palace
Kuenga Rabten Palace islocated 23 km towards Zhemgang Road from Trongsa. It takes nearly an hour to reach the place. It is a two-storied purely Bhutanese-style architecture. It is a very simple palace and is the birthplace of our Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk. He was born on 2nd May 1928. He spent most of his early childhood days here in the Palace.
Before reaching the place you can see the palace clearly on the roadside of the highway to Zhemgang from Trongsa. It was the winter palace of the second King of Bhutan. Now it is the top touristic place in Trongsa. It is under the Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs under National Commission for Cultural Affairs.
