Laya Gasa Hot Spring Trek Route: Punakha-Damji-Gasa-Koina-Laya. This Trek is the shorter version of the Laya Gasa Trek and takes about 8 Days to complete Trek. The Trek is best for beginners and is rated medium-hardone. It takes you through diverse terrain and mountain villages down to Gasa.

Laya Gasa Hot Spring Trek Overview

The trek starts from Punakha to Gasa and Laya and follows the same route back. This is a shorter version of the Laya Gasa Trek starting from Paro covering the Jumolhari trek route. The trekking days are shorter as the hike begins only from Gasa Hot Spring. The trek begins from the Hot Temperate climatic condition of Punakha to the cold alpine weather of the remote tribal community of Laya. The journey also includes a visit to Gasa Dzong.

Day 1 :

Arrival at Paro International Airport. Altitude 2300M.

Arrive at Paro Airport. Visa will just take about 30 minutes and our team from Tour Bhutan will be outside with your name placard. A brief familiarization will be done by the guide before you begin the tour of Bhutan. If time permit, visit Ta Dzong, once a watchtower, built to defend Rinpung Dzong during inter-valley wars of the 17th century. It was inaugurated as Bhutan’s National Museum in 1968. Afterwards visit Rinpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan; the Dzong continues its age-old function as the seat of the district administration, district court and the monastic body. The southern approach to the Dzong has a traditional roofed cantilever bridge called Nemi Zam. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 2 :

Paro to Thimphu City Tour.Distance 60KM | Driving Time 1 Hour | Altitude 2400M

Tour the Capital city of Bhutan. Tour includes a visit to textile museam, Library and 13th arts and crafts School. Over night at Hotel.After breakfast, drive towards Thimphu (the capital of Bhutan) which is about 1 hour drive. En-route ,visit Tamchog Monastery, a private temple owned by the descendants of famous Tibetan bridge – builder Thangthong Gaylpo. Later on continue the drive to Thimphu and visit Buddha point for a stunning view of Thimphu city and Takin Compound. After lunch visit Tashi Choe Dzong: The fortress of the glorious religion was initially constructed in 1641 and rebuilt by King Jigme Dorji Wangchuk in the 1960s. Visit the Folk Heritage Museum, National library and craft bazar for shopping .Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 3 :

Thimphu to Punakha. Distance 72 KM | Driving Time 3 Hours | Maximum Altitude 3200M at Dochula.

After early breakfast, drive towards Punakha via Dochula pass. On arrival, take a short hike through beautiful rice fields to Chimmi Lhakhang, a temple dedicated to Drukpa Kuenley, who as a favorite saint of the Bhutanese people is known affectionately as “the Divine Madman”. The temple is on a hillside in the middle of rice fields and has become a pilgrimage site for childless couples. And later, visit Punakha Dzong located at the confluence of the Pho-chu (male-river) and Mo-chu (female-river), the Punakha Dzong is arguably the most impressive dzong in the country. Dinner and overnight at Hotel.

Day 4 :

Punakha to Gasa Hot Spring.Distance 73KM | Driving Time 3 Hours | Altitude 2800M.

We drive our way till hotspring. The roads are not good enough and at times you might come across muddy roads, so be prepared.

Day 5 :

Rest Day at Gasa Hot Spring. Altitude 2800M.

The day will be at leisure to try out the hot spring located by the bank of a stream. You may see many locals visiting the hot spring as it is believed that the spring has lots of healing affect on many skin ailments and body aches. It’s a perfect nature gift for trekkers to take at least a day of relaxation in the Hot spring.

Day 6 :

Gasa to Kohina

Distance: 17Km Walking time: 5 Hours Maximum Altitude: 3800m Ascent: Descent: Camping Altitude: 3200m After early breakfast trek begins from Gasa Hotspring to Kohina. on the way Visit Gasa Dzong

Day 7 :

Kohina to Laya Village

Distance: 19Km Walking time: 5 hours Maximum Altitude: Ascent: 1070m Descent: 260m Camping Altitude: 3200m Camp near the village. Walk around upon reaching Laya village.

Day 8 :

Explore Laya Village. Altitude 3820M

Explore the village of Laya. Laya is a small remote village in northern Bhutan bordered with Tibet. It lies at an altitude of 3800m above sea level. There are about 800 tribal people living in the area. The main income source of this people comes from hiring of horse for tourist and cordycep harvest.

Day 9 :

Laya to Gasa Hot Spring

Distance: 38Km Walking time: 9 Hours Maximum Altitude: 3200m Ascent: Descent: Camping Altitude:2900M After early breakfast we descend our walk towards Gasa Hot Spring. Lunch will be served at Kohina. The hike is quite long today and we start early morning. Over night at Gasa Hot Spring.

Day 10 :

Gasa to Thimphu City Tour. Driving Time 6 Hours | Altitude 2400M.

Drive to Thimphu from Gasa Hot spring. It takes about 6 hours from Gasa to Thimphu. Upon reaching Thimphu check into the hotel and relax.

Day 11 :

Thimphu to Tiger Nest Temple Hike. Distance 75 KM | Driving time 1 Hour till Paro | Walking Time 3/4 Hours .

After early breakfast, we drive to Paro Tiger Nest Base Camp. Hike to the tiger nest temple is best in early morning as there will be less people walking the routes. The route takes about 3 hours uphill walk from pinewood forest. Our guide will be assisting you throughout the hike. We take rest at Taktsang Cafe for tea and coffee.

Day 12 :

Drop to Airport and See Off.

Today is the last day of your Tour in Bhutan. Our team will be waiting outside your hotel to drop you at the airport. Please make sure your documents and flight tickets are ready to show at the airport. Its always good to report 3 hours prior to your departure time.
