The Prakhar Duchhoed is held at the Prakhar Goemba, in the Chumey Valley of Bumthang, which is about half an hour’s drive from Chamkhar town.During the festival, a variety of mask dances are performed. The event is held in honor of Lama Thukse Dawa, a son of the revered Buddhist guru Terton Pema Lingpa who lived in the fifteenth century. The festival honors Lama Thukse Dawa, the son of Terton Pema Lingpa, a revered 15th-century Buddhist saint and treasure discoverer. During the festival, the monks perform sacred mask dances and rituals, reflecting Bhutan’s deep-rooted spiritual traditions. The event serves as a significant cultural and spiritual gathering, attracting locals and visitors who come to witness its vibrant displays of devotion, art, and heritage.
