Southern Bhutan has a hot and humid subtropical climate that is fairly unchanging throughout the year. Temperatures can vary between 15-30 degrees Celsius (59- 86 degrees Fahrenheit).
In the Central parts of the country which consists of temperate and deciduous forests, the climate is more seasonal with warm summers and cool and dry winters.
In the far Northern reaches of the kingdom, the weather is much colder during winter. Mountain peaks are perpetually covered in snow and lower parts are still cool in summer owing to the high-altitude terrain.
Climatic conditions vary vastly across the country. One can be in shorts and a T-shirt and within a few hours of travel need a warm jacket and pullover. There are also large fluctuations in temperature even at the same destination or general area. The amazing thing about Bhutan is every village is a virtually independent ecosystem and there is no general weather forecast. However one can clearly make out the extreme heat and heavy rainfall with the district attached with India plain of southern Bhutan. The temperature can go above 35 degrees at the peak of Summer (May to July) and remains comfortable 15 degrees at the height of winter (December to February) Temperature in the central valley where you would be spending most of your time is much lower.
The summer does not exceed 30degree and nights are in the 15-20 degree range. In winter the day temperature is around 15degree but at night it gets cold with sub-zero. You may expect snowfall in places like Thimphu, Paro, Haa, and Bumthang during winter. Therefore the most favorable time to visit Bhutan considering weather and temperature is Spring (March to May) and Autumn season( September to November). Overland Journey during summer can be risky as multiple landslide and heavy fogs disrupts the travel and winter is another season where roads are blocked by Ice.
