The Mongar Festival is a vibrant and culturally rich annual event celebrated in the eastern district of Mongar, Bhutan. It is one of the many Tshechu (religious festivals) held across Bhutan to honor Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century.Tsechus are significant events in Bhutan, marking important dates in the Buddhist calendar and providing communities with an opportunity to gather, celebrate their spiritual heritage, and enjoy traditional performances. The Mongar Tsechu is one of the many such festivals held throughout Bhutan.

People from all over the region, as far as Trashigang and Lhuentse come to attend this festival – Mongar Festival. A lot of unique and indigenous mask dances to this region are performed during the festival. It concludes with the unfurling of the Guru Tshengye Thongdrol (Liberation at Sight).Witnessing Mongar Tsechu offers a captivating opportunity to engage with Bhutan’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, while also enjoying the festive atmosphere and interactions with the local community.
